The person on the other end of the line

Janus van der Meulen
Job Title: Technical Call Centre Agent
Nationality: Dutch
Languages: Dutch, English, French, German

What is your background?

I used to work with trucks: international breakdowns, production, testing, supply, part recognition and so on. I’ve worked in France, Germany and Belgium. It all began with my father who had a large dealership in Eindhoven, I worked there when I was a much younger man!

How do you help the people that call you?

We get a lot of calls about spark and glow plugs, some really unusual questions about vehicles that have been out of production for a long time – we always try and find a suitable substitute but it isn’t always possible so we then look elsewhere. Helping the customer is our priority. I have a lot of experience with cars and trucks so callers often ask me about fitting parts and common issues like brake noise, mounting problems, function issues and so on.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I do a lot of work on cars myself and I love sports – skiing, tennis, golf and padel (a combination of tennis and squash from Mexico). I also love to travel, I’m lucky enough to have been all over the world. Some of my highlights were South East Asia and China, I enjoy experiencing other cultures.

What is your dream car and/or motorcycle?

There is only one brand for me, Citroën. I was raised with Citroën cars, and the double chevron holds a special place in my heart. I had a Mitsubishi once but I turned it into a Citroën by replacing all the badges, I told people they’d made the car bespoke for me! Nowadays, all new cars are great, they are almost perfect from the second they leave the factory.
